Help Keep Rose Park Clean!

Leash your dog · Pick up trash · Keep dogs out of playgrounds

Three simple habits that keep our neighborhood park green, safe and welcoming for everyone.

Leash Up

Rose Park is not an off-leash area. Please keep your dog on a leash from gate to gate so children, players and other dogs can enjoy the park safely.

Read the DC leash law (§ 8-1808) › Learn More

Pick It Up

Pack out what you bring, always bag and bin after your dog, and pick up one stray piece of litter on your way out.

Playgrounds

Rose Park's play areas are for kids. Dogs stay outside every playground at all times, even on leash and even when no one is playing.

Please Keep Dogs on Leash

Rose Park is small, busy and shared. On any given morning you'll find tennis players, Little Leaguers, toddlers on scooters, strollers on the path and neighbors out for a quiet walk. A leash keeps everyone at ease, including your dog.

Even the friendliest pup can startle a child, tangle with another dog, chase a ball across the field or dart toward the street. Under DC Code § 8-1808(e), dogs in public recreation areas other than official dog parks must be on a leash or under control of someone who can physically restrain them, and Rose Park is not a designated dog park. Please keep your dog leashed and close, from the moment you come through the gate until you leave. Use a short leash near the paths, courts and benches, ask before letting your dog greet others, and keep pups off the field and courts while play is underway.

Pick Up Trash, and After Your Dog

Every wrapper, cup and bottle left on the lawn ends up tangled in the grass, blown into the flower beds or washed down toward Rock Creek. Rose Park is cared for by neighbors and volunteers, and it stays beautiful when each of us leaves it a little better than we found it.

Pack out what you bring. If a bin is full, carry your trash home rather than stacking it on top. Always pick up after your dog: bag it and bin it, and never leave a bag on the path, by a bench or hanging in a tree. On your way out, pick up one stray piece of litter. Please bring your own bags; bag-station details will be posted here when confirmed.

Keep Dogs Out of the Playgrounds

Rose Park's playgrounds are the parts of the park built just for kids, from toddlers on their first slide to big kids on the swings and climbers. Children crawl, dig, sit on the ground and put their hands on everything. Even a well-behaved dog can leave behind waste or germs, get underfoot on equipment, or give a child a real scare.

Please keep dogs out of all of Rose Park's play areas at all times: even on leash, even for a moment, even when a playground looks empty. If you're visiting with both kids and a dog, have one adult wait outside the play area with your pup. Where a playground is fenced, please close the gate behind you.
